“A strong, EXPERIENCED, common-sense voice for the interests of ALL residents of West Vancouver”
In my childhood, my family emigrated from Britain. What ensued for us was the struggle of many immigrant families to understand and to succeed in a new environment. My parents instilled in me a strong work ethic, the value of a good education and a passionate commitment to community, especially West Vancouver.
I was elected to council in 2014 and 2022, (I was a mayoral candidate in 2018).
I am again running for council to ensure that residents' values are, in fact, reflected in council's decisions. Residents must be listened to by their elected officials in Open Council meetings, not Closed. I am a firm believer in transparency in government.
I believe that the changes we make and the developments we approve must improve our residents' quality of life. With my experience, I can proactively assist in intelligent planning for strategic development that does not undermine our seaside, village-like character or overwhelm our infrastructure.
I will work with the mayor, my fellow councillors and members of staff in a collaborative, thoughtful and respectful manner to create fiscal policies and development strategies that will guide West Vancouver into the future.
In summation, I have listened and I have learned; I will put residents' needs and interests first, for they are West Vancouver.
As Your Councillor, I Will:
- take a fiscally responsible approach to spending, to ensure that we are achieving the best value for your tax dollars;
- advocate to protect our natural environment, our foreshore, parks and green space, for future generations. Also, by ensuring that there is no future building on, or commercialization of our waterfront, or above the 1200 foot mark;
- ensure that neighbourhood character throughout West Vancouver is respected and strengthened as we add a diversity of housing to attract young families to our community and to allow seniors to downsize and age in place;
- support Local Area Plans that reflect the existing seaside character of our community, that address the expectations of our residents and that seek to revitalize and energize our business districts;
- support Arts and Culture strategies which satisfy the community's needs and which are financially viable;
- work collaboratively with North Vancouver and First Nations Councils to address our mutual problematic traffic and infrastructure issues. We need to speak as a unified voice.
